Polygraph Testing
The Polygraph Testing service offered
by Investigator (UK) Ltd. is reliable, scientific, state-of-the-art
and highly accurate. A Polygraph Test is commonly known
as a Lie Detector Test; however it may be more relevant
to see it as a ‘Truth Verifier’ Test: a
tool used to get to the truth efficiently and reliably.
As such, Polygraph Testing fully complements the
private investigation services offered by Investigator
(UK) Ltd.
A polygraph is a scientific instrument
that measures someone’s physiological responses
when answered a series of pertinent questions. During
questioning the polygraph machine records deviations
and/or increases in responses such as blood pressure
and pulse levels, respiration and skin conductivity
on the basis that false answers will cause such deviations.
Extensive research has found computerised polygraph
testing to be 98% accurate, making it an invaluable
tool for
private investigators.
Polygraph tests can be used to detect both dishonesty
and innocence and can help to expedite an ongoing investigation.
In order to ensure the highest possible
accuracy, Investigator (UK) Ltd. uses the latest polygraph
technology and highly qualified, professional and experienced
examiners who carry out the tests in a comfortable setting.
Taking two to three hours, the test is thoroughly explained
to the subject through each stage of the process in
a straightforward and direct way, and the examiner also
fully explains how the results and analysis will be
reported.
Polygraph tests
have many different uses, from uncovering cheating partners
and addressing accusations to pre-employment screening
and in corporate theft cases. Whether the arena is domestic
or marital, criminal or corporate, a polygraph test
is valuable wherever there is a quest for the truth.
As with all of the
private investigation services offered by Investigator
(UK) Ltd, we carry out our polygraph testing in a discreet
and ethical manner. And just as with all facets of our

FAQs
FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. How accurate
is the polygraph?
A.
The polygraph technique is very accurate, however, it
is not infallible. According to the American Polygraph
Association, over 250 studies have been conducted over
the past twenty five years on the accuracy of polygraph
testing. It is estimated that the accuracy of the results
is in the range of 90 - 95 %. More recently, research
has shown that the accuracy of computerised polygraph
testing is 98 %.
Q. Is the
polygraph like the lie detector?
A.
Yes. The polygraph instrument is a scientific, diagnostic
instrument which is often called the "lie detector".
It would be more appropriate, however, to call it the
"truth verifier".
Q. I am
telling the truth but I am nervous about taking a polygraph
examination. How does the polygraph establish the difference
between the state of nervousness and reactions as a
result of lying?
A.
It is quite normal for an innocent person to feel nervous
and the polygrapher is very aware of this. Nervous reactions
which are recorded on the polygraphic charts are not
interpreted by the polygrapher as a manifestation of
deception. Nervous reactions are completely different
from those reactions that are recorded when a person
is deliberately lying.
Q. How
long does a polygraph examination take?
A.
A polygraph examination takes about two to three hours,
however, some may take more or less time, depending
on the nature of the issue under investigation.
